Kunduz rugs are handknotted in Kunduz and the surrounding villages of northern Afghanistan. The Kunduz rugs look similar to the Khal Mohammadi but are of better quality and a higher number of knots. The knotting is fine and neat, creating a very smooth and velvet-like pile. The color is often deep red, but other colors such as bright red, brown, copper and beige are also used.
